Reply to Justice Katju on Saying Netaji Subhas was Japanese Agent

All knows that Judges are not illiterate and they are intelligent enough to decide the fate of normal people. Still sometimes Justice Markandey Katju had stated in his blog post that Netaji was a Japanese Agent. But indeed he was not.

What Katju has to say?

‘ Netaji ‘ Subhas Chandra Bose

If ‘ Netaji ‘ was not a Japanese agent, why did he surrender when the Japanese surrendered ? He should have carried on a guerilla war against the British.

If the Japanese had been victorious against the British do you seriously think they would have granted independence to India ? No, they would have made India a Japanese colony, and ruthlessly exploited and looted it.

In fact Bose was being used by the Japanese, and they would have bumped him off the moment his utility for them was over. He was no doubt a brave and personally honest man, but he had become an agent of Japanese fascism

Our Reply to Katju

Let us try to reply him.

Netaji to Katju 2

Hi Sir!

With all respect, I want to state few facts for your considerations hereby. I hope you will read them. Before that I want to say that Judges are not literary illiterate rather they are lighthouse of profound knowledge and education because of which they decide the fate of normal people.

Sir! Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose had established Second Provisional Government of Free India (Aazad Hind Sarkaar) that too in Singapore, which was recognized and affiliated by 14 countries including

  1. Ireland,
  2. Germany,
  3. Japan,
  4. Italy,
  5. Russia,
  6. Burma,
  7. Independent State of Croatia,
  8. Wang Jingwei’s Government in Nanjing,
  9. Thailand,
  10. Manchukuo, and
  11. Second Philippine Republic.

On the declaration of its formation in Singapore the Taoiseach of Ireland, Éamon de Valera, sent a note of congratulations to Bose. Vichy France, however, although being an Axis collaborator, never gave formal political recognition to Azad Hind. This government participated as an observer in the Greater East Asia Conference in November 1943 as a Separate Nation.

As a Government, Second Provisional Government of Free India (Aazad Hind Sarkar) had territory over Imphal, Andaman and Nicobar Islands (named as Shaheed & Swaraj islands). This Government had an Army (Indian National Army) with two or three Planes in its Air Wing and a unit of Paratroopers. What’s more? This Government also has a bank – Aazad Hind Bank that too with a National Currency – Aazad Hind Notes.

There were 85,0000 prisoners of war with Japan in Singapore and whole being kept alive in the training camps. Only 20,000 of them took part in Indian National Army.

If a person had created a parallel Government with an Army, Bank and Currency, then can he be considered as an Agent? Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was not an agent at all. The stories of being  his agent of Japanese was spread by British India Government so that no Indian could take part in Aazad Hind Fauj and Aazad Hind Sarkaar. Yes, they were successful but after great defeat do you know what had happened?

Indian National Army under its Provisional Government of Free India surrendered separately to the English and American troops. Various officers of Indian National Army were held captive by American Army then transferred to British India Army. They were brought to India not to Japan to run a trial on them. If Indian National Army, its officers, and mainly its founder – Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose were just Japanese Agent, their War Criminal Trial had to be happened in Japan in Tokyo where an International Military Tribunal for Far East was already running.

Being independent and not agent, Indian National Army officers and soldiers were held captive in Red Fort and a Special War Criminal Tribunal named Indian National Army Trials was commenced in Delhi. They were not punished at all and freed away after a long trial as their counsel Bhula Bhai Desai had proved that

they were Prisoners of War fighting in the leadership of a separate Government named Provisional Government of Free India.

It was a war between two Nations and two Governments, so a Government against whom a war was fought had no power to conduct the trial of Prisoners of War of its enemy’s Nation or Government.

After the release of Indian National Army Officers from Red Fort Jail, they ignited the fire of Freedom Fighting among their counterparts of British India Army. They removed their framed thinking that Netaji was a stooge of Japanese or Subhas was an agent of Japanese. Indian National Army Officers proved how they fought with bravery and won Imphal but had to retreat and faced defeat as the public in British India did not support them.

If Japan had to make India slave it never had let Subhas made different Independent Government. Why people forget the example of Dr. Ba Ma Shaw who freed Burma with the help of Japan. In the same year 1943, Japan also gave independence to the Philippines. Both Burma and Philippines had received freedom after attack of Japan without any “Transfer of Power”, without any partition, and without any pros & cons. Some areas were occupied by Japanese Army in order to keep up their attack on British forces and these areas were vacated during retreat. India was in the strongest position much better than Philippines and Burma because Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose had formed Azad Hind Government in exile and was on same status as that of Prime Minister of Japan. His bank officially took loan to repay after independence. On the contrary, Philippines and Burma were totally dependent upon Japan. Not only Indian National Army took equal role in attacking on British but Azad Hind Government also surrendered separately not with Japan after defeat.

P.V. Chakraborty, former Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court and acting Governor of West Bengal in 1956, met Clement Attlee ex-Prime Minister of Britain when he was on a personal tour to India on March 30, 1976, in Raj Bhavan Calcutta to launch the book of Ramesh Chandra Majumdar titled “History of Bengal”.

Chakraborty asked, “Why British left India? Which made it necessary for them to leave India in a hurry even when the Quit India Movement of Gandhi practically died long before in 1942 itself?”

Clement then explained the reasons to leave India and the major reason was activities of Indian National Army founded by Subhas Chandra Bose and coming back of these soldiers to birth the unrest causing Royal Indian Navy Mutiny, which failed British Government to control without help of Patel and Jinnah. He said it was quite difficult to control the military mutiny as British Empire was firmly stood only on it till then but INA led by Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose broke these pillars.

Chakraborty again asked, “How much the decision of British to leave India was influenced by Mahatma Gandhi’s 1942 movement?”

Clement Attlee smiled and replied very softly by giving stress to each alphabet, “M I N I M A L”.
Above different facts hereby proves that Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was neither a Japanese Stooge nor a Japanese Agent. He had formed a Government (Provisional Government of Free India), Army (Indian National Army), and Bank (Aazad Hind Bank) in parallel to that of Japan. All communications were done on the official letter head of his Government and all financial help taken by him was in form of loan on Aazad Hind Bank that had to be repaid after Independence.

Additional Note

Justice Katju! You say that

I regard the true freedom fighters of our country as Surya Sen, Bhagat Singh, Khudiram Bose,Chandrashekhar Azad, Rajguru, Bismil, Ashfaqulla

What about Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose who trained Surya Sena, Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Aazad, Rajguru, Sukhdev, Jatindranath, Batukeshwar Dutt and other revolutionaries in his Military Training Camps established by Subhas in Calcutta?
